The Coastal Collection
Standing at the edge of a cliff looking down at the ocean below. The wind swirling around you, fresh with the smell of the sea. The feeling and the beauty of it all is so hard to put into words. When I finished this painting I felt it though.
The soft sky above, the water below in layers of blue, from deep navy to bright turquoise, streaked with white where the wind stirs it up. The hillside tumbles down in olive green, moss, blush and gold, loose and layered, everything leaning into the wind.

I painted this piece over a year ago. I loved it when I painted it but then tucked it away in the studio, where it stayed hidden for almost a year. When I came across it again a few months ago, I saw it differently. I loved the soft blues and greens, the layers of texture, and especially the looser marks and rougher edges. There was something about it that I wanted revisit.
This is the painting that inspired the entire Coastal Collection.

This painting makes me think of grabbing someone's hand and saying let's go. Down the hillside, past the wildflowers, out to where the water turns deep blue and the light spills across the horizon.
The sky is soft and bright, washed in shades of cream and pale yellow. The hillside rolls down in olive and moss green, dotted with periwinkle, peach and blush, like wildflowers catching the last of the sun. Below, the water moves in ribbons of navy, teal and white, with drips running down where the waves let go.

Hi, I’m Nikol.
I’ve been painting from my studio on Vancouver Island for fifteen years, creating layered, colour-filled paintings for homes near and far. Somehow, my work has found its way from Victoria to Berlin to Brisbane, which still feels like a small miracle every time I think about it.
Along the way, I’ve also taught more than 2,000 students through my online classes. Turns out a lot of people have been waiting for permission to make a mess.
Whether you’re here to find a painting for your home or you’re ready to try painting yourself, I’m so glad you’re here.
Thanks for stopping by.
